Biography Adrian Brouwer (Brouwer Adriaen)
(ca. 1606-1638) Born Audenarde ca. 1606. Elementary art education was probably in his father's workshop, which was doing sketches for tapestries. At age 16, ran away from home and settled in Antwerp, which came under the influence of Pieter Bruegel the Younger and painted in the spirit of the old Flemish painting. After a brief stay in Amsterdam in 1625-1626 Adrian Brouwer settled in Haarlem, being already fully mature master. After moving to Holland an artist's palette has changed under the strong influence of Frans Hals painting. In the same period, Brouwer began to paint landscapes. His work, executed on his return to Antwerp in 1632, different shapes and acute plasticity characteristic way. Among the subjects to which the master treated most often - scenes in the taverns, feasts, smokers and peasant feasts. Brouwer died in Antwerp on Feb. 1, 1638.
