Biography BROWN Arthur Whitten (Brown Arthur Whitten)
(1886-1948)
Born July 23, 1886 in Glasgow (Scotland). He studied in Manchester, then trained at the company, Westinghouse Electric End menyufekchuring '. In 1914 he enlisted in the British army, a year later was assigned to the Air Force. Was shot down over enemy territory, 18 months spent in captivity. After his release he worked in the department of aviation engines of the Ministry of arms. Being introduced in 1919 with a pilot Dzh.Alkokom, who was preparing to fly across the Atlantic, joined him as co-driver. They started June 14, 1919 from St. John's (Newfoundland) on the twin-engined biplane 'Vickers Vimy' and after 16 h 12 min flight landed in Klifdene (Ireland), completing the first nonstop flight from America to Europe. In the same year, both were built by King George V knighted in. After the flight Brown worked as a manager in the company, Metropolitan Vickers'. Brown died in Swansea (Wales), October 4, 1948.
