Biography Thomas Moore (Moore Thomas)
(1779-1852) Born May 28, 1779 in Dublin, graduated from the University of Dublin (Trinity College, 1798). Rise 'United Irishmen' in the same year and the execution in 1803 of his friend his student years R. Emmett Moore made a passionate patriot, Ireland. In 1799 he moved to London, where his translations of Anacreon (1800) was a big hit. His first collection of poems (1801) published under the pseudonym of Thomas Little (Thomas Small). Irish tunes (Irish Melodies) Moore out in individual issues from 1808 to 1834, for the first series of music to the texts written D. Stevenson, for the second - G. Bishop. Some of the songs included in the melodies are still popular. In 1803, Moore sailed to Bermuda as a registrar of the prize court. Leaving the islands of its representative, he returned to England. Later, the representative awarded 6000 pounds, and Moore, who was responsible for it, had in 1819-1822 in order to avoid arrest, to live in Europe. In 1811 he married the Irish actress Elizabeth Dyke. Their happy union was marred by the fact that they survived all her children. Moore died in a cottage near Sloperton-Bonvuda (Wiltshire) 25 February 1852.
