Biography NERVE Mark Cocceji (Marcus Cocceius Nerva)

Born in Narnia (sovr. Narni) in Umbria, north of Rome. He has held high positions under Nero (Pretoria, 65, was awarded after uncovering a plot Piso). He was twice consul (in 71 and 90). Notable for erudition, knowledge of law, a tendency to literature, enjoyed great prestige among the Senators. In 96 all it forced the Senate to stop the choice on my nerves as the successor of the murdered Domitian. Less than a year and a half of his reign Nerva able to exercise little, but it identified changes that fell to him after Trajan. In 97 Nerva fathered popular among the troops make Ulpe Trajan and made him his successor (this procedure is the transfer of power lasted until Marcus Aurelius), was already almost equal to his powers. Nerva was able to find the means to an extensive program of distributing land to poor citizens and, perhaps, created the first nutritional state funds to support poor children.
