James Hargreaves (Hargreaves James)

Born probably in Blackburn (Lancashire), between 1740 and 1750 he worked in Stendhille carpenter and a weaver on hand looms. In 1760 constructed an improved carding machine, and some in 1765 invented the jenny, named in honor of his daughter 'Jenny-spinner'. On this machine, one worker could weave cloth at once from several different fibers - wool, cotton and linen. When Hargreaves has sold several of their machines, weavers raided his house and broke the 'Jenny'. Then he moved to Nottingham, where he opened a small weaving mill, and in 1770 received a patent for his invention. Hargreaves died in Nottingham April 22, 1778
. For many years it was considered, . that English businessman R. Arkwright unjustly declared himself the inventor of the carding machines, . which actually was the brainchild of Hargreaves, . but recently discovered evidence shows, . that Hargreaves only Arkwright improved the invention,
