Biography FERRET Jules Franö¿ois Camille (Ferry Jules Franois Camille)
(1832-1893) Born April 5, 1832 in Saint-Die. He received a law degree. Many traveled to Europe, was engaged in journalism. Elected in 1869 as a deputy from Paris to the Legislative Corps, was one of the leaders of the opposition. In July 1870 Ferry made a declaration of war against Prussia. After the September Revolution, 1870 - Member-Secretary of the Government of National Defense, November 1870 - Mayor of Paris. Directed the suppression of the revolt of the Parisians in January 1871. In the days of the Paris Commune he fled to Versailles. In 1879-1883 he was Minister of Education, in 1883-1885 - Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was twice prime minister - from September 1880 to November 1881 and from February 1883 to March 1885. Introduced in France a system of free compulsory primary education. As the Prime Minister Ferry contributed to the revival of the French colonial empire. When it was captured by Tunisia (1881), the start of the conquest of Madagascar, the valleys of the Congo and Niger, increased ownership of the French in Annam, Tonkin, Somalia, Upper Senegal, Polynesia. Ferry, died in Paris on 17 March 1893.
