Biography FRIEDRICH III (Friederich III)
(1415-1493) The son of the Duke of Austria, Ernest III Iron, Friedrich was born in Innsbruck, September 21, 1415. In 1440 he was elected in Frankfurt, Germany's king, the coronation took place in Aachen June 17, 1442. In 1445 Frederick concluded with Pope Eugene IV secret agreement, which resulted in the Vienna Concordat (signed in 1448 already with Pope Nicholas V), who was in fact a betrayal of the interests of Germanic church. March 19, 1452 in Rome hosted the coronation of Frederick as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire (the last coronation in Rome). Frederick was indecisive and a bad ruler, . Empire when it fell into decline: He lost not only the Czech Republic, . where established Jiri of Podebrady, . and Hungary, . which came to power Matthias I Corvinus, . but yielded the same Corwin significant part of Austria, . including Vienna, . Perpetrated by Friedrich in 1477 the marriage of his son Maximilian and daughter of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, can be called his biggest success, which laid the foundation for the further rise of the Habsburgs. Frederick chose as the motto of the dynasty abbreviation A. E. I. O. U., which stands for Austriae est imperare orbi universo (Latin. "Austria is destined to rule all the world '). After the election of Maximilian in 1486 the heir Frederick began to withdraw from business. The rest of his life he spent doing alchemy, astrology, and botany. Frederick died in Linz, August 19, 1493.
