Biography HOU Ilayes (Howe Elias)
(1819-1867) Born July 9, 1819 in the town of Spencer (pc. Mass.). He was an apprentice at the factory of textile machinery (1835-1837), worked in the watch shop in Cambridge (pc. Mass.). Decided to create a sewing machine, after 5 years of hard work has received a patent (1846). The first machine with lockstitch was offered for sale in England, where Howe came with sewers W. Thomas, who sold the rights and the realization of machines in this country for бё 250. Staying in England from 1847 to 1849, Howe was engaged in litigation against those who infringed on its copyright, especially against A. Singer. All processes were resolved in 1854 in favor of Howe, and he prospered. In 1867 it improved the car received a gold medal at the Paris Exposition. Howe died in New York on October 3, 1867.
