Biography ARF Domitius (Domitius Afer)
Domitius Afer; Domitius Afer, 14 g. BC. BC .- 59 g. n. e., Roman orator, theoretician and teacher of rhetoric. Pretor 25 g., consul in 39, with 49 g. a so-called curatos aquarium (ie, Superintendent of plumbing). Author works of witnesses (De testibus) in 2 books, a large number of judicial speeches, both in defense and the accusatory. (He often acted as counsel in the processes of lese-majeste.) From these speeches are preserved only fragments. DA. attributed to a number of books consisting of a collection of exquisite tales Urbane dicta DA. had a great influence on his contemporaries and later speakers. His disciple was Quintilian, who assessed the DA. extremely high, calling him the best speaker age.
