GERMANIKA Julius Caesar (Germanicus, Iulius Caesar)

Germanicus Julius Caesar; Germanicus, Iulius Caesar, 15 g. BC. EG-19 g. n. e. The Roman orator and poet. The son of Drusus and Antonia, at the command of August was at 4 g. n. e. adoptable Tiberius. From 5 g. n. e. husband of Agrippina the Elder, father of Caligula and Agrippina the Younger. Very talented and well educated, brilliant orator, commander, conqueror of the East and the Rhine tribes. Died 19 g. n. e. poisoned by Piso governor of Syria, possibly on the orders of Tiberius. - G. wrote poems in two languages: Greek and Latin. In Latin, he wrote Aratus, a free paraphrase of the poem Arata Phenomena. Survived 725 hexameters, which can be compared with the surviving fragments of Cicero's poem of the same name. G. Cicero's superior poetic talent and originality of the interpretation of the original. Added to this poem were Prognostics, weather poem, from which large fragments preserved. In Greek, he wrote, apparently, a comedy, and in both languages - epigrams. From them, nothing left.
