Numenius; Numenios, of Apamea, II in. n. e., Greek philosopher. Tried to open in the philosophy of Plato's doctrine of the Pythagoreans and the wisdom of the East, especially the Jewish, which led to a dualistic picture of the world and stressing the transcendence of God. Written history of the Academy, chastising Askalonskogo eclecticism of Antiochus and his followers. Artworks H. had a great influence on Plotinus, Origen, Porphyry and later Neoplatonists. From the works of H. preserved only in fragments.
