During World War II
Constantine lived in exile in South Africa and returned to Greece in 1946. When his father became King
Paul I in 1947,
Constantine was proclaimed Crown Prince. He inherited the throne after his father died March 6, 1964. Fearing the spread of the army "left" ideology, in July 1965, Konstantin dismissed Prime Minister George Papandreou. He was appointed interim prime minister until April 21, 1967, when the eve of elections, planning for May, a military coup.
