Lorenz Ivan Leopoldovich (20.9.1890, Lodz - 1942), diplomat. The son of an accountant. Educated at the Faculty of St. Petersburg University (1913), in the Mikhailovsky Artillery School (1915). Since 1913 the attorney. In 1915, drafted into the army. Participant 1-st World War, Lieutenant. In October. 1917 was elected commander of the artillery battalion. During negotiations with the Germans at Brest-Litovsk L. was assigned to the Soviet delegation as an interpreter. In 1918, Secretary of the embassy of the RSFSR in Berlin, where deported along with the rest of the red for the diplomats involved in the preparation of the communist uprising. In 1919-20 he served in the Red Army, Commissioner Artillery 15 th Army. In 1920 transferred to the Office of People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs of the RSFSR. Participated in negotiations with Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, senior secretary of the Soviet delegation. In 1920, Secretary of the embassy in Latvia, 1921-23 Secretary, Counselor of the embassy in Warsaw. Signed several agreements with the Polish government. Prev. Soviet delegation at the health conference in Warsaw. Since 1923 Ambassador to Lithuania, since 1925 - in Finland. In 1927-29 Ambassador to Latvia. In 1930-31 led the team on the pedagogy of the scientific sector of the USSR People's Commissariat of Education. From 1931 he worked in the Commissariat of Foreign Trade. Since 1935 Ambassador to Austria. Was in the country until its accession to Germany. Then, recalled to the USSR and was arrested. Sentenced to death. Shot. He was posthumously rehabilitated.
