Khataevich Mendel Markovic (10.3.1893, Gomel - 30.10.1937, Moscow), party activist. In 1913 joined the RSDLP, Bolshevik. Son trader. By profession a dental technician. In 1917, Deputy. prev. Before 1919. Gomel district committee of the RCP (b). In May 1920, among other Communists mobilized on the Western Front, early. Political Department of the Army, the division. In July 1921 Secretary of the Provincial Committee in 1925 - Tatar Regional Committee of the CPSU (b). Since 1925 member of the Central Auditing Commission CPSU (B), since 1927 a candidate member, since 1930 member of the CC, CPSU (B). In 1932-37 member of the Politburo (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine. Since 1933 1-st secretary of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee, with 17.3.1937 2 nd Secretary of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine. One of the main organizers of collectivization in Ukraine, which caused massive devastation of the peasantry, and, consequently, is responsible for the terrible famine of 1933-34. 9/7/1937 arrested. 27/10/1937 sentenced to death for alleged involvement in the counter-revolutionary terrorist organization. Shot. In 1956, rehabilitated and restored in the party.
