AUGUST (Augustus) (until 27 BC. e. Octavian) (63 BC. e. - 14 m. BC.), Roman emperor from 27 BC. e. Grand-nephew of Caesar, the adopted them in his will. Victory in 31 BC. e. Shares in over the Roman general Mark Antony and the Egyptian queen Cleopatra concluded the civil war (43-31 BC. e.), which began after the death of Caesar; concentrated power in their hands, however, preserving the traditional republican institutions, this regime is called Principate.
