Biography Pavel Alexandrov
Pavel Alexandrov was born on Nov. 7, 1896 in the town Bogorodsk (located near Moscow, also known as Noginsk).
A year after the birth of Paul, Alexandrov moved to Smolensk. There his father worked as a senior doctor in the city Zemstvo hospital, and he even developed a surgical operation called "Operation Aleksandrov-Wertheim".
Pavel Alexandrov in childhood studied French and German. Somewhat later (while in the U.S.), he learned more and the English Language.

The main theme of work is Alexandroff topology on which he had written over 200 papers, of which only a few were written in collaboration.
Aleksandrov made many journeys: on the Volga, the Caucasus, in Goettingen, in Paris, in the U.S.. Some of them - with his friend Academician Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov.
Aleksandrov made a great contribution to the development of topology and other areas of mathematics, he was awarded many medals, prizes and the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.
Pavel Alexandrov died in 1982.
