Knushevitsky Svetoslav

Knushevitsky, Svetoslav (1907/1908-1963), Russian cellist. Born in Petrovsk (Saratov province) on Dec. 24, 1907 (6 January 1908). Since 1922 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory in the class SM Kozolupova (pupil AV Verzhbilovich). In 1933, won 1 st prize at the I-Union Competition Musicians. In 1929-1943 played in the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater (Musical group cellos). In these years a lot of concerts, played in ensembles, including known for piano trio with LN Oborin and DF Oistrakh, has also performed in a quartet named L. van Beethoven. In 1941-1963 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory (in 1950 became a professor in 1954-1959 was chair of the cello and double bass). Many Russian composers, including SN Vasilenko, and A. F. Goedicke, dedicated Knushevitsky their essays. Per its execution have been established concerts for cello and orchestra Miaskovsky (1945), AI Khachaturian (1946).
Knushevitsky was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1956), he - USSR State Prize Laureate (1950). Knushevitsky died in Moscow on February 19, 1963.

His brother - Viktor Knushevitsky (1906-1974), composer and conductor - was the head of the State Jazz Orchestra of the USSR (since 1936).
