Petrov Osip

(1807 - 1878). From childhood a passionate attitude toward music as a child sang in the church choir, played on folk instruments, learned to play the clarinet and bassoon. Since his uncle, with whom he lived (in Elizavetgrad), prohibits such classes, then P. left for them in the field. 19-year old made his debut in the operetta "The Cossack-poet", he sang on the stages of Kharkov, Odessa, Nikolaev, Kursk and other theaters. In 1830, Mr.. entered the Imperial stage in St. Petersburg and successfully made his debut in the role of Zoroaster in the "Magic Flute" by Mozart. Until the end of life remaining in the company of Russian opera, P. performed more than 130 variety of roles. With excellent voice-bass (which MI. Glinka called mighty) and a great talent on stage, P. always served as an ornament opera, performed the role of dramatic, comic, half-serious with the same artistic force. Smart gift P. showed in Russian operas, and his artistic activity is closely associated with the opera "Life for the Tsar", "Ruslan", "Mermaid," "Rogneda" in which he created the role of Susanin, Farlaf, miller, Vladimir.
