Biography VERNET, Claude Joseph (Vernet Claude Joseph)
(1714-1789) Karl's father and grandfather of Horace Vernet Vernet, also artists. Born August 14, 1714 in Avignon. He studied in Italy at Ferdzhoni Bernardino and became one of the most prominent landscape painters of his time. In 1754-1762 commissioned by the King wrote a series of paintings Ports of France (Paris, Louvre), which preceded the creation of a series of sketches from life. His large canvases purchased to decorate the palaces across Europe, and now they can be found in all major European museums, especially the many works of the artist is in Russia. Died Joseph Vernet in Paris on December 3, 1789.
