Biography Piner Arthur Wing (Pinero Arthur Wing)
(1855-1934) Born May 24, 1855 in London. From 1880 to 1910 was the most commercially successful playwright in London. After 1890 perfected the technique of a so-called. 'well-made play', thus paving the way for the pieces with serious social issues. Coming from a family of Portuguese Jews, Piner in preparing youth for his father's footsteps to become a lawyer, but carried away by the theater without much success the actor had worked in Edinburgh (1874) and the London 'Globe tietr'.

Thereafter Piner left the scene, devoted himself entirely to compose; his play landowner (The Squire, 1881) and dissipated (The Profligate, 1889) heralded the emergence of more serious pieces in 1890. In these plays, harbinger of the playwright demonstrates a remarkable skill in creating life typecasting, the drop-down in typical dialogues and circumstances. The Second Mrs Tenkerey (The Second Mrs. Tanqueray, 1893) - the first tragedy of the next cycle - a sensation and marked a new stage in the development of theater. Of the other tragedies, representing 'the woman with the past', only Iris (Iris, 1901) and Halfway (Mid-Channel, 1909) multiplied the list of his artistic achievements. In 1909 Piner was elevated to the dignity of knighthood. Playwright worked successfully until his death in London on 23 November 1934.
