KVINT Curtius Rufus (Curtius Rufus)

Curtius Rufus, Quintus; Curtius Rufus, Roman historian. We know nothing about his life. He lived probably till 224, but called the other dates from the turn of I in. BC. e. and I in. n. e. until the beginning of II in. n. e. K.R. was the author of History of Alexander the Great in 10 books (Historiarum Alexandri Magni libri X). Preserved (with minor gaps) Book III-X. Materials for his work K.R. drew from a variety of works, from the most extensive (Arrian, Aristobulus) to belletrizovannyh versions originating from the novels Kleytarha and Callisthenes. This latter he gave a clear preference. Product K.R. enjoys extraordinary popularity. There are many curious and sensational details about the campaign of Alexander. K.R. happy to pay attention to these episodes, which allows him to shake the reader and gives the place moralization. Composing K.R. also has historical value because it found the data, other sources have not survived.
