By ovals Valentin - Test Pilot. Born July 29, 1914 in Baku (Azerbaijan). Russian. In 1931 he graduated from the gliding school in the town of Mineral Waters of the Stavropol Territory. In 1933 he graduated from trade schools and the Aero Club of Baku, was left in him an instructor pilot. After graduating from high school a body flight in 1934 was a glider instructor at Baku Aeroclub. In 1937 he graduated from the school Bataisk pilots GVF. He worked as a pilot and flight commander training squadron Yenisei squadron GVF.
In the Soviet army from 1942. In 1949 he graduated from the training test pilots. In 1950-1955 Б? in flight test work in the Flight Research Institute. He participated in a number of testing on aircraft and helicopters. In 1955-1962 Б? Test Pilot TUPOLEV. Rise into the sky and tested the Tu-16R, Tu-98, Tu-22B, participated in the trials of TU-104 on the critical conditions, development of air refueling aircraft Tu-16. In 1957-1960 set 22 world aviation records (of which 6 Б? as co-pilot), speed, range and carrying capacity on the Tu-104A, Tu-104B and Tu-104E.
. W tion of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin and medal "Gold Star" Valentin Kovalev was awarded on Oct. 5, 1960 for their courage and heroism shown during the trial of a new aviation technology.

. Died Dec. 1, 1972. He was buried in Moscow on Vagankovskoye cemetery.
