Biography GIPP (Hippias)
Hippias; Hippias, of Elis, V in. BC. e., Greek sophist. He traveled throughout Greece as a teacher and speaker, gain so much state. He took an active part in public affairs, traveled to embassies in Athens, Sparta and other cities. He wrote works on mathematics, astronomy, grammar, poetry, music, mythology and history. Was also engaged in the creation of epic poems, tragedies and dithyrambs. From the vast creativity G. we know only a few names: Collection (Synagoge; knows what), names of people (Ethnon onomasiai); Trojan speech (Troikos), . probably, . pedagogical character - the son of Achilles, Neoptolemus after the fall of Troy asked the old Nestor, . should do what the young man, . to garner the glory, List of Olympic victors (Olympionikon anagraphe), . apparently, . first attempt at a chronological approach in Greek literature, . None of his work has survived. G. is the hero of the two dialogues of Plato, his name (Greater Hippias Hippias and less), and it appears in Plato's Protagoras, and in Xenophon's MEMORABILIA.
