Biography EMILIO Papinian (Papinianus, Aemilius)
Papinian, Emilia; Papinianus, Aemilius, mind. in 212 g. n. e., Roman jurist. When imeratore Septimius Severus, with whom he was closely connected, performed with 203 g. function prefect pretorian. In 212 g. was executed on the orders of Caracalla after the last murder of his brother and co-ruler Antonina Getae. There are different versions of connection P. with this event, but probably, he expressed his distaste for misconduct Caracalla. The bulk of creativity n. are products of the so-called problem of literature (Quaestionum libri XXXVII, Responsorum libri XIX). He also left a monograph on the act of adultery (De adulteriis libri II) and a collection of definitions, not preserved in the original version, but in the later processing (Definitionum libri II). Because of this option 595 fragments hit the body of civil law of Justinian, many approaches to creativity n. we find in later writers (especially Paul and Ulpian). P. wrote a very concise, clear, strong, sometimes quite succinctly, and so it is not always and not everyone was clear. Brilliance of his work and the aura of the tragic death of rapidly established his reputation as luminaries of the Roman jurisprudence, the greatest of all. Formally, this estimate consolidated the position of quoting, in which P. ranked first among the 5 classical jurists. But in recent years, there was a tendency to give primacy Julian.
