Biography LAKE Leonid Moiseevich
Student Vitaly Ginzburg, a graduate of Moscow State University in 1963, Leonid Ozernoi belonged to a remarkable constellation of Moscow astrophysicists of the sixties, who managed to catch the beginning of the revolution in astronomy.
In 60-ies Ozernoi published a number of critical works on the theory of quasars, active galactic nuclei and the collapse of stars. He first predicted the emission of gravitational waves during supernovae, significantly advanced the theory of stability and evolution of magnetized supermassive stars are actively involved in the evolution of dense globular clusters.
I have been privileged to work with Leonid Moiseevich already in those years when he left for the United States, where he worked at NASA and the University. George Mason (Washington). But I knew it from the early 70's.
Quiet, intelligent in conversation, he became rigid and inflexible in the scientific controversy. He was not afraid to be left alone, insisting on their point of view, contrary to the scientific "COMMUNITY". Very rare and important quality in science.
He was able to put forward new ideas and valued. He once told me: "Volodya, the most valuable thing in science - is the ability to put the new task. This is impossible to teach, and here (in the U.S.) that there is little. "
In their (Soviet) when he was restricted to travel abroad, he experienced a terrible disappointment in others, which almost all turned away from him. He was again left alone, but the departure for America has changed relatively little.
The bright memory of Leonid Moiseevich the Lake.
