Forfait, Pierre-Alexandre - Forfait Pierre-Alexandre (1752-1807) - French engineer. Member of the Naval Academy (1781), corresponding member of Academy of Sciences (1789). In 1786 he took part in the construction of the first packet-boat, then plying between France and the U.S.. From 1786, Mr.. director of naval construction in Le Havre. During the Terror he was arrested. After his release, he was appointed Inspector General of Forests. In 1796 at the invitation of Napoleon, led the construction of arsenals in Antwerp. 1799-1801 gg. - Minister of Marine, director of construction of Boulogne Flotilla. 1801-1804 gg. - State Councilor. 1805. - Maritime Prefect of Genoa, where he was fired after an incident with a poorly built ship.
