Biography KAZZENS James Gould
KAZZENS, James Gould (Cozzens, James Gould) (1903-1978), American writer. Born August 19, 1903 in Chicago. Two years went to Harvard University. During the Second World War he served in the Air. His first novel, "Confusion" (Confusion, 1924) published in 16 years in the 'Atlantic Monthly'. Novels "battlefield" (Cock Pit, 1928) and "Son of perdition" (The Son of Perdition, 1929) relate to Cuba, where Kazzens during the year to teach children of American engineers. Impressions from the host in 1926 in Europe as a private tutor, the boy with disabilities formed the basis for his autobiographical novel "Ask me tomorrow" (Ask Me Tomorrow, 1940).
Theme of the mature works Kazzensa, TN. Scenes and conflicts of his novels are determined by the hero's profession - a doctor in "The Last Adam" e (The Last Adam, 1933), a priest in "Muzhah and brotherhood" (Men and Brethren, 1936, O. Henry Prize), the military in the "honor guard" e (Guard of Honor, 1948). The novel "Honor guard" was awarded the 1949 Pulitzer Prize. In 1952 Kazzensu was awarded a Ph.D. at Harvard honorary doctorate of literature. Died in Kazzens Stewart (pc. Florida) August 9, 1978.
