Vice-president of Russian Academy of Sciences has no faith in rise of science
Vice-president of Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Mesyaz doesn`t believe in positive changes in Russian science.
"Despite of all talks and statements I consider that there will be no significant improvement in sphere of science this year. Budget of science for 2006 increased by 25%. But such growth of financing will not increase wages of scientists to 30 thousands rubles by 2008. Therefore, there is no reason to expect fivefold increase of wages", - he said.
Mesyaz considers that it is necessary to renovate scientific equipment - this measure will stimulate discoveries of Russian scientists. In his opinion, "scientists must be set state goals in order to restore science to life".
"State doesn`t set goals but demands the results. Frankly speaking, there will be no results when leading professor is officially paid the wage of yard-keeper", - complained Mesyaz.
But the scientist also noted positive tendencies in science. "I am inspired with progress in power engineering. Large companies feel a need in science. In particular, the head of "United Energy System of Russia" Anatoly Chubais, performing in Academy, said that solution of economic problems is possible only due to co-operation of industrial companies with Russian Academy of Sciences", - concluded vice-president of Russian Academy of Sciences.
