Biography PETROV Evgeny Petrovich
Real name - Evgeny Petrovich Kataev. The writer and satirist, author of the novels "The Twelve Chairs" and "The Golden Calf" (with I. Ilf). Born December 13, 1903 in Odessa, in the teacher's family. In 1920 he graduated from Classical High School, then worked as a journalist and an inspector of Criminal Investigation. In 1923 he moved to Moscow where he worked in various magazines, publishing satires and humorous stories. In 1925 he became acquainted with I. Ilf. After returning from military service began writing in collaboration with Ilf initiated by his brother, the writer Valentin Kataev. Together they wrote the novels "The Twelve Chairs" (1928) and "The Golden Calf" (1931), which became a gold fund national literature, as well as numerous satires, amounting to several collections. In late 1933 - early 1934, together with Ilf and Petrov went to Italy and other European countries, in 1935-1936 they were six months in America.
