Biography Baranov, Alexander Andreevich
(1746 - 1819). Originally from Kargopol, B. on business moved to Irkutsk, where the glass and gave a distillery and was engaged in contracting and repurchase. Razyezzhaya on her way to Eastern Siberia, B. down some of their observations and communicate their notes in the Free Economic Society, for which in 1787 was elected an honorary member. In 1790 accepted the offer of the founder of the Russian American colonies to take the place of their ruler. B., arriving in 1791 on Kodiak Island, engaged in the first expansion of the company holdings. He took a new place on the American continent in the Kenai and Chugotskom bays, founded (1796) Yakut settlement in the Bering Sea Gulf, in 1799 built a small fortress of Novo-Arkhangelsk. B. conducted an extensive trade in fur product; started relations with Canton, Manila, California, Sandwich Islands and New York. In 1818, the sickness has left the position of the ruler and died in a road near the island of Java. - Wed. Khlebnikov, "A Biography. Baranova "(1835).
