Biography Ibn Gabirol Solomon
(1021 - ca. 1058)
Born in Malaga (Spain) in 1021. Despite the short life, Ibn Gabirol left an enormous number of poems of secular and religious nature and some important philosophical works. Many of his poems have become part of religious ritual in the synagogue service. Umer Ibn Gabirol in Valencia (Spain) ca. 1058. According to legend, he killed out of jealousy rival. Legend has it that the murder was discovered when the fig tree under which hid the body, has brought extraordinary benefits.
The most important philosophical works of Ibn Gabirol, originally written in Arabic (the original has not survived), and only partially translated into Hebrew, was a treatise Source of Life (Masdar al-Hayat). Latin translation, Fons vitae, had a considerable influence on medieval Christian theology. The author of the book, however, have long been considered a mysterious Arab or Christian Avitsebron; only in the middle of the 19. Solomon Munk proved its identity with Ibn Gabirol.
