Biography Kirin Elpidio (Quirino Elpidio)
(1890-1956), born November 16, 1890 in Vigan. Graduated from the Faculty of Law University of the Philippines, in 1915 received the right to the Bar. Prior to 1919 served as a clerk in the Philippine Commission - the first self-governing body of the country. He was elected to parliament in 1919, and in 1925 became a member of the Senate. Minister of Finance and Minister of Interior in the administration of Manuel Quezon. In 1946 he became vice-president of the Philippines. Since assuming the presidency after the death of Manuel Rojas in 1948. In 1949, won the presidential election as the candidate of the Liberal Party. Managed to reduce public debt and successfully coped with the detachments of armed actions of the Communist hukbalahap. In 1949 the newly elected president in 1953 lost the election Ramune Magsaysayu. Died Quirino near Manila on Feb. 28, 1956.
