Biography MOLHO Solomon
(ca. 1500-1532)
Born in Portugal in the family Maranov (Jews forcibly converted to Christianity) and was named Diogo Pires. Raised a Christian, he was Secretary in the royal court. Molho met who arrived in Portugal adventurer David Reubeni (ca. 1490-1535), who promoted Judaism as a messenger of the missing tribes of Israel, supposedly lived in Asia. Molho took his speech with great enthusiasm and turned to the Jewish faith. Although Reubeni rejected him, he made the circumcision, he left Portugal and went to Italy and Turkey, where he began studying Jewish mysticism. In 1529 published a collection of his sermons (Sefer Ha-Mefoar), spoken in Palestine. They Molho announced the coming of the messianic kingdom in 1540. Returning to Europe, its brilliant sermons, he has inspired many Jews. On one occasion, and become the Messiah of the rabbinic tradition of the suffering of the Messiah, he fasted for 30 days among the cripples and beggars in Rome. Molho has an audience with Pope Clement VII, providing him a safe-conduct, and predicted the severe floods in Rome. In 1530 he again met with Reubeni, they went together in Regensburg and tried to gain the confidence of Emperor Charles V. Molho was arrested, in the hands of the Inquisition and burned at the stake in Mantua and Bologna in 1532.
