Biography Javier Perez de Cuellar
(p. 1920) Born January 19, 1920 in Lima (Peru). He began his diplomatic career in 1944. In 1964-1966 - Ambassador of Peru in Switzerland, in 1969-1971 - in the USSR and Poland, in 1977-1979 - in Venezuela. In 1971-1982 - head of the Peruvian delegation to the UN. In 1982 was appointed UN Secretary-General in 1986 was reelected for a second term . Attempts mediation Perez de Cuellar in the Anglo-Argentine war in the Falklands in 1982 earned him universal respect, they were followed by other initiatives - for Afghanistan, . Namibia and in solving the border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela, . and also (in 1988) personal involvement in resolving the Iran-Iraq conflict, .
In 1995, Perez de Cuellar put his candidacy for the presidency of Peru, but lost, receiving 22% of votes. After leaving his post at the UN, took up the practice of law.
