In the army since 1936. In 1937 he graduated from the Eisk military aviation school marine pilots and letnabov, in 1941 Б? High School navigators. He served in line units air. Marcher Soviet forces in Western Ukraine and Western Belorussia in 1939.
Member of the Great Patriotic War from June 1941. by May 1945 Guard Captain Sokolov made 194 sorties in the long-range reconnaissance deep behind enemy lines.
