After World War II,
Tiso was a prominent member of the Slovak People's Party
Andrei Glinka. In the period from 1927 to 1929 he was a member of the Czechoslovak Government. In 1838 he inherited from Glinka's post as party leader. October 6, 1938, he became prime minister of the autonomous Slovakia in the new federal Czechoslovakia. Since assuming the presidency of the country, under the patronage of Adolf Hitler, declared in 1939 the independence of Slovakia, to prevent its annexation by Hungary.
