(1842 - 1905), studied at St. Petersburg University and in Germany. At one time editor of "Russian World", was a professor of Russian literature at Tartu University, then director of the gymnasium in St. Petersburg. . Written in his biography of Lermontov, the sixth volume of the edited editions of works of Lermontov (Moscow, 1891), is valuable primarily as a summary of carefully collected evidence. Revision of the text does not differ systematically and care techniques; Viskovatov sometimes reaches such naivete that literally straighten Lermontov's poem.
