MAKAROV Metropolitan

(1816-1882)
Born on September 19 (1 October) 1816 in the village of Surkov Kursk province, in the priest's family. He graduated from the Kiev Theological Academy. From 1842 he taught theology and the discipline of church history at St. Petersburg Theological Academy. Since 1850 - rector of the Academy. Edited number of church publications: Christian reading, Spiritual Journal, and others. In 1854 he was elected to the Imperial Academy of Sciences. From 1879 - the Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna.
Among the early works of Macarius - Discourse on the possibility of metaphysics, in which the author defended the metaphysical tradition and accused of contemporary philosophy in total empiricism, in the care of the proper philosophical perspective. In the creative heritage of Metropolitan is working on the history of ancient philosophy (on the pre-Socratics, Plato and Neo-Platonist, etc.). The most significant place among the theological works of Macarius took his courses in different years of dogmatic theology.

Makarios died in the village of Lesnaya Moscow province 9 (21) in June 1882.
