Biography Santa Anna Antonio de
(1794-1876) He was born in Xalapa (pc. Veracruz) February 21, 1794. Began his military career as a cadet at age 15. In 1821 joined Agustцґn de Iturbide in 1923 contributed to his defeat. He was governor of Yucatan, Veracruz and then. In 1829, commanded an army of patriots who defeated the Spaniards in an attempt to capture Mexico City. In 1833 Santa Anna became president of Mexico. In 1836 North Americans crushed the rebellion in the Alamo in Texas. In the Battle of San Jacinto (1836), the Texans led by Sam Houston defeated the Mexicans routed, Texas declared its independence from Mexico, after which Santa Anna resigned. In 1838 commanded the Mexican troops in repelling the French intervention in Veracruz. In 1841, Santa Anna led a coup and again became president. Under his command the national army suffered a heavy defeat in the war with the United States, and after the date of Mexico City in 1847 Santa Anna fled the country. In 1853 he returned to power, but two years later, it lost. Died Santa Anna in Mexico City on June 21, 1876.
