Claudius, Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus; Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus, 10 g. BC. e. - 54 g. n. e., Roman emperor from 41 g. The son of Drusus and Antonia. As a child, sickly and weak, he stayed away from political life, devoting his time to studies, particularly historical research, in which he followed Livy. He wrote in Greek (?) History of a century in August, covers the period from 27 g. BC. e. to 14 g. n. e. in 41 books, the history of the Etruscans in 20 books, the history of Carthage in 8 books. His works have disappeared. There were also preserved: the product on the dice and autobiography in 8 books, which Suetonius recognized magnificent stylistically, but mediocre in content. In Lyon, were found the speech of the emperor, written on a bronze plate. This is the same speech, which leads Tacitus. K. interested in philology, was trying to introduce three new Latin alphabet characters.
