Biography LEYBHOLTS Gerhard (Leibholz)
Leybholts, Gerhard (Leibholz), German lawyer, who left Germany after the Nazis came to power. Born November 15, 1901 in Berlin, the family member of City Council. He studied philosophy at Heidelberg and jurisprudence in Berlin. He taught in law faculties of universities of Berlin and Gottingen. Sharply condemned the National Socialism in 1936, was dismissed from the University of Berlin under the pretext of Jewish origin. September 9, 1939 Leybholts with his wife and two children left Germany and settled in Switzerland. From 1939 to 1946 he served in the leadership of the World Council of Churches. Lived in England. After the 2-nd World War, he returned to Germany, where he worked in the Federal Constitutional Court and also taught law at the University of GцІttingen. In 1972 Leybholts retired.
