Biography Abraham a Sancta Clara
(Abraham a Sancta Clara, real name Johann Ulrich Megerle) (1644-1709), one of the most popular novelists and satirists of the Baroque. Born in 1644 in Kreenhaynshtettene (Swabia) in a peasant family. Entry into the Order of Augustine and became a priest in 1666. Having served several years as a parish priest, Abraham settled in the monastery of St.. Augustine's in Vienna, where he remained until his death in 1709. The critical phase of his career should take it to the appointment of a court preacher to the Emperor Leopold I (1677), . For more than 40 years of church activities in Vienna, Abraham produced over 20 volumes of sermons and edifying works. The broad popular treatises not forget, Vienna (Mercks Wien, 1679) and Arise, Christians (Auf, auf Ihr Christen, 1683), the first was written in response to the epidemic of plague that struck Vienna, the second - in connection with the siege of Vienna by the Turks. The main purpose of Abraham was the education of the community and bringing it to greater righteousness. This purpose is served by such outstanding works of a preacher, like Judas, arch-rogue (Judas der Erzschelm, 1686-1695) and Sacred petty shop (Geistlicher Kramladen, 1709).
