Biography Marin
(Marinus), Maureen, Morinus (ca. 450, Neapolis, now Nablus, Jordan - OK. 500, <Athens>) Born in Naples in Palestine, by nationality, apparently, a Samaritan. He studied in Athens, Proclus Diadochi in Plato's Academy. After the death of Proclus in 485 g. became head of the Academy. Have survived only philosophical work of M. - "Life of Proclus, containing a biography of the teacher M. and horoscope. M. regarded astrology as an art, similar to medicine. In astronomy, M. studied the problem of determining the parallax and the identification of precessional motion of the Milky Way (M. believed that the Milky Way belongs to the same area as the star, but did not agree with the correct guess of Democritus, that the Milky Way consists of a set of indistinguishable individually stars).
