Richmond Mayo-Smith (Mayo-Smith Richmond)

Born February 9, 1854 in Troy (pc. Ohio). He received a bachelor's degree in Amherst College (1875), studied at the universities of Heidelberg and Berlin. Since 1877 and until his death was a professor at Columbia University. Participated in the creation of the American Economic Association (1885) and the journal 'Politikel Science Quarterly' ( 'Political Science Quarterly', . 1886), . in the reorganization of the American Statistical Association (1889), . and the creation of the U.S. Census Bureau (1895),

Among the works Mayo-Smith - Emigration and Immigration (Emigration and Immigration, . 1890) and two-volume Statistical Science (Science of Statistics), . consisting of books Statistics and Sociology (Statistics and Sociology, . 1895) and Statistics and Economics (Statistics and Economics, . 1899),
. Mayo-Smith proposed survey methods for the identification of immigrants among these patients, criminals and mentally ill people. Mayo-Smith died in New York on November 11, 1901.
