Biography James Rowland Angell (Angell James Rowland)
(1869-1949) Born in Burlington (pc. Vermont), May 8, 1869. In 1890 he graduated from the University of Michigan. He continued his study of philosophy at Harvard. After years of teaching experience at the University of Minnesota in 1894 became the head of psychology courses and laboratories in the University of Chicago. Angell conducted studies on the functional psychology, he owned a lot of articles, as well as two well-known textbook: Psychology (Psychology, 1904) and the pages of modern psychology (Chapters in Modern Psychology, 1912). Significant effect on Angell had William James and John Dewey, and his own perceptions, in turn, influenced by John Watson. In 1921, Angell became president of Yale University. In the 16 years in this position, he coordinated the research at different schools and different departments. Were founded, many faculty, research programs, scholarships, built chemical laboratory, a library, building medical, legal, theological faculties and graduate. In the period 1923-1932 were discovered school nurses, . Engineering School, . Institute of Psychology (later became the Institute of Public Relations), . Theater and Drama Department, . built a university theater, . art gallery and a gym, . In 1937 Enzhdell resigned, confident that the university is on the rise. Collection of his speeches American Education (American Education) was published in 1937. Angell died in Hamdene (pc. Connecticut) March 4, 1949.
