KOGAN, Leonid Borisovich (1924-1982), Russian violinist and teacher.
Born Yekaterinoslav (now Dnepropetrovsk) November 14, 1924. Studied from 1933 in Moscow, from 1936 in the Central Music School in the class Yampolsky (representative of the school of Leopold Auer). At the same teacher, in 1948 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1953 - postgraduate. Winner of the International Violin Competition, the Queen Elisabeth in Brussels (1951). Since 1944 - soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic. From 1952 until the end of days taught at the Moscow Conservatory. Among students Kogan - V. Mullova, M. Iashvili, A. Korsakov. People's Artist of USSR. Lenin Prize (1965).

Kogan was one of the brightest representatives of the Soviet violin school, introducing her to the 'romantic-virtuoso' wing. He always gave a lot of concerts and very often, even with the Conservatory years, toured abroad. In his repertoire were presented, . approximately equal proportions, . all the basic positions of the violin repertoire, . including contemporary music: Kogan devoted to "Concerto-Rhapsody" AI Khachaturian, . violin concertos TN Khrennikov, . K. Karaev, . MS Weinberg, . A. Jolivet, for he began to create his third (unrealized) concert Shostakovich,
. Kogan was a consummate performer works N. Paganini (in 1982 starred in the role of the great violinist in the movie "Niccolo Paganini"), as well as virtuosic miniatures Henryk Wieniawski, P. Sarasate, F. Kreisler and all kinds of spectacular violin transcriptions.

Cogan died in Mytischi December 17, 1982.
