Liston was born in cotton tenant, with 25 brothers and sisters. Started boxing while in prison for armed robbery.
A talented boxer,
Sonny chose his main weapon of the enemy intimidation. With a knockout punch with both hands,
Liston and menacingly stared glumly at their opponents, winning many more before the first round.
Began his professional career in 1953, he quickly rises to the top, leaving a stream knocked rivals.
World champion in the heavyweight division, he began Sept. 25, 1962 by sending in a first round knockout of Floyd Patterson. Rematch took place in 10 months, but the result is the same:
Liston wins by KO in the first round.
The rule of
Liston in the ring ended in 1964, when he lost a contender Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). Rematch was held a year later and as we know, Muhammad Ali won by knockout.
In 1970,
Sonny Liston in his last professional fight lost a young Chuck Uepneru, and in 1971 he died of a heart attack and pulmonary edema.
He had 54 professional boxing fight, winning 50 victories, 39 of them by knockout
