Luis Echeverria

Luis Echeverria Alvarez was born on January 17, 1922 in Mexico City. In 1940 he became secretary to the president of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). He quickly rose in political circles and held several important posts in government and the PRI before he was appointed interior minister in the cabinet of President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz.
